World famous research firm Gartner has ranked the SCM process of Apple as the worlds best every year since 2010 till 2013 (Gartner.com., 2014). Apples management of inventory is stupendously good as it doesnt allow wastage and has fixed parameters about repeating inventory usage. The process of Apples supply chain starts with purchase of inventories and components from a number of suppliers around the world which is shipped to its factories at China. The assembled products are then directly shipped to customer homes who buy it online. In addition, products for the worldwide Apple stores, are shipped to California where Apple has its warehouses. Products are then sent to worldwide stores. Apple Inc. is one of the forerunners in SCM innovations. However, there are many examples of companies failing to fulfill SCM objectives. The reason behind this is bad decision because of lack of framework. Products can be classified into two categories according to their nature in supply chain primarily functional and primarily innovative (Fisher, 1997). Apple Incs products which are innovative electronic gadgets falls into the second category and they have taken required and necessary steps to execute proper framework of supply chain in regards to the nature of their product. The actions in this regard include fast moving of the components to protect them from getting expired, and proper care in the storage of the fragile and delicate components. The company CEO Tim Cook believes that the problem with components of electronic gadget is that they lose efficiency with time. Therefore, a very fast paced process of SCM is required in such cases. In terms of operation Apple deals with stores in almost everywhere around the world. They had 492 Apple stores all over the world across 19 countries with more than 130000 employees working for the company (Statista.com, 2018). It is one of the largest companies in the world today (Refer to Appendix 1 and 2). It is evident that the operational strategy of the company is complex and case sensitive as Apple has its centers, offices, shops and stores in multiple geographical areas with varied cultural practices and historical backgrounds. The company has customized its operation in each region according to the culture of the host country, though the basic tenets of business that is followed is governed by Apple headquarters in USA.
