The Chicago Mafia During The Prohibition Era - 1236 Words

Just like in every other business legal or not legal if there is demand, be rest assured there will be a supply. The result was bootlegging â€Å"alcoholic liquor unlawfully made, sold, or transported, without registration or payment of taxes.† (random house, 2015) Bootlegging helped open the door for more organized crime such as opening speakeasies, which were private illegal stores and clubs that sold alcohol. These activities turned out to be a very lucrative business in the black market sector, thus creating large organized crime groups, more criminal and violent activities. This was especially true in the larger cities, such as Chicago were one man named Al Capone ruled the city â€Å"One of the most famous American gangsters, Al Capone, also†¦show more content†¦In the 1920s many anti-prohibitionists started gaining steam, because of the new found support and the obviousness that the 18th Amendment was not working. When the great depression struck in 1929, it h elped support the Anti-Prohibition movement even further, for the sheer fact that the government could end the prohibition and instead of the black market getting the money from alcohol sales, it could be going to the people. The money the government was using to enforce the prohibition, that clearly wasn’t working, could be going to areas in the U.S. that really needed it. These were some of the points that even Democrat, Franklin D. Roosevelt used during his election campaign, and the majority loved the idea of ending the prohibition and Roosevelt was elected to be the 32nd president in November 1932. Soon after Roosevelt came into office it was put into motion to repeal the 18th Amendment. â€Å"After over a decade of being a â€Å"dry† country, on December 6, 1932, Senator John Blaine of Wisconsin submitted a resolution onto the floor of the Senate to submit the 21st amendment to the states for ratification, which followed in February 1933. That very same year, t he 36th state, which was the last necessary one needed (and ironically ended up being Utah), ratified the 21st amendment at 5:32pm on December 5th, at which point President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, at 7pmon the same day, signed the amendment and

A Feral Child With A History Of Near Total Social Isolation

Abstract This paper explores the introduction of a feral child with a history of near total social isolation into a society that was as unprepared to receive her as she was to understand it. The discussions and thoughts regarding this child s treatment and care on both the medical and personal front did answer some questions while bringing to light even more. Additionally, there were a great number of scientific opportunities that were overlooked and missed due to the research staff s decision to focus all of their time and efforts onto testing just one theory. This paper will briefly examine the care and treatment received by this child while offering an in-depth review as to how this case relates to the three major sociological†¦show more content†¦This child s situation, although terribly inhumane and unfathomable, would become a living, breathing experiment that humanity would never dare to intentionally replicate because of the negative residual effects that would haunt such a test subject for the rest of their natural life. The horrid upbringing that this child was forced to endure was an opportunity unlike any other (McMahan, 2014). Many fields of study could have been named the main scientific focus in Genie s case, but it was finally decided upon that linguistics would take the lead above all others (Newton, 2004). Although the sociological perspective was not a priority, it would be a mistake to not recognize the importance of the information contributed to sociology by Genie s history and rehabilitation. Genie put the three major sociological theories brought to light by Durkheim, Marx and Weber to the test and challenged their very principles. The information provided by the observations and documentation were more than enough to conduct a real life comparison to the theories while providing sociologists with a fresh perspective. Unique Opportunities The availability of someone as unique and fragile as Genie was instantly recognized as a rare chance to witness, evaluate and document the findings of an almost unheard of social experiment that would test the validity of the three major sociological theories proposed by Durkheim, Marx and Weber. Framework Can Help Figure out the Answer -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Framework Can Help Figure Out The Answer? Answer: Introduction Supply chain management (SCM) is the process in which the products move from one point to another. The incoming of the raw materials, processing of them into finished goods and shipping of the finished goods to point of sales is known as SCM. Operations management is the daily operational functions in the organization in the various departments which result in the production of goods and services. In this paper the operational strategy of the company Apple Inc. Apple Inc. is a global company with its stores, offices and units in every part of the world including Singapore. The companys factories are mainly located in China. Therefore, it is evident that the company has a very elaborate and efficient supply chain process which ensures that the products reach their destinations swiftly all over the globe. World famous research firm Gartner has ranked the SCM process of Apple as the worlds best every year since 2010 till 2013 (Gartner.com., 2014). Apples management of inventory is stupendously good as it doesnt allow wastage and has fixed parameters about repeating inventory usage. The process of Apples supply chain starts with purchase of inventories and components from a number of suppliers around the world which is shipped to its factories at China. The assembled products are then directly shipped to customer homes who buy it online. In addition, products for the worldwide Apple stores, are shipped to California where Apple has its warehouses. Products are then sent to worldwide stores. Shipped to customers buying online Manufacturing and Assembling at Chinese factories Components buying Apple Stores Apple Stores Apple Stores Storage at warehouse of California Shipping to Factories at China Many innovative processes in Supply Chain Management like flexibility in manufacturing, interactive response system from consumers and advanced logistics is adopted lately. Apple Inc. is one of the forerunners in SCM innovations. However, there are many examples of companies failing to fulfill SCM objectives. The reason behind this is bad decision because of lack of framework. Products can be classified into two categories according to their nature in supply chain primarily functional and primarily innovative (Fisher, 1997). Apple Incs products which are innovative electronic gadgets falls into the second category and they have taken required and necessary steps to execute proper framework of supply chain in regards to the nature of their product. The actions in this regard include fast moving of the components to protect them from getting expired, and proper care in the storage of the fragile and delicate components. The company CEO Tim Cook believes that the problem with components of electronic gadget is that they lose efficiency with time. Therefore, a very fast paced process of SCM is required in such cases. In terms of operation Apple deals with stores in almost everywhere around the world. They had 492 Apple stores all over the world across 19 countries with more than 130000 employees working for the company (Statista.com, 2018). It is one of the largest companies in the world today (Refer to Appendix 1 and 2). It is evident that the operational strategy of the company is complex and case sensitive as Apple has its centers, offices, shops and stores in multiple geographical areas with varied cultural practices and historical backgrounds. The company has customized its operation in each region according to the culture of the host country, though the basic tenets of business that is followed is governed by Apple headquarters in USA. Ltd is a software development company. The company is going up drastically over the past 5 years and had made a remarkable position in the market through its software advancement. As we all know that summer 2010 had produced Pakistan worst flooding in 80 years. The number of people have effected due to the flood, they need many items like food, shelter, clothing and many more. We are a Pakistani based company, so we feel that we should help the needy people of Pakistan who are under lot of problems. Almost 20% of the area of Pakistan is affected by this heavy flood. The numerous areas are still under the water and is polluting the environment, due to which numerous diseases are spreading around. This will going to make the dead rise go even higher. So we as a company will going to contribute our part for the rehabilitation of the flood effectives. We are now looking forward to provide the basic medicines that are required, so that the flood effectives can use them and prevent themselves and their children from different diseases that can take birth from the dirty water standing in the flood effective areas. As 20% area of Pakistan is being affected from the flood ranging from Punjab through Sindh, Khyber Pakhtoon khawa and all over to Baluchistan. Each and every Province of the country is somewhat effected form the heavy flood. The stat shows that Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa is heavily effected with the flood and the cities like Noshera and Mardan are on the top. We are now looking forward to provide the basis medicines/drugs or Non-drugs item too the areas of Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa so that the people can utilize the services. The amount of Medicines required in the area will going to be collected by the Survey team. The inspection team will visit the effected areas by themselves and will going to calculate the amount of drugs/non-drug item that are needed there. Furthermore the medicines and vehicles will going to be procured by the organization by floating the tender in National Newspaper. The whole project will be funded by the organization itself. The project will be carried out under the supervision of Mr. Ahsan Javed (Project Manager) who is a qualified professional and had numerous degrees regarding Project Management. He is the man who is really capable for the project. He is responsible for all the activities that will be carried out in the project. He will be reporting directly to the Higher Authorities of the organization. Communication with our stakeholders will depend upon the activities that will be under process. The stakeholder who will be involved in the activities will be informed on routine basis about the progress of the project. Furthermore special meetings will going to be held in the supervision of the project manager that will be for the discussion of any risk if occurred in the project. In these risk discussion meetings only managers for different department will be gathered and thus the method to resolve the risk. For this project we would require a complete team of 17 members who will be performing different activities at different point in time of the project. The list of team members with their designation is as follows: |Master |NAME |DESIGNATION | |1 |Mr. Shafqat |CEO of the Company | |2 |Mr. Ahsan Javed |Project Manager | |3 |Mr. Ali Azmat |Procurement Manager | |4 |Mr. Nazakat Hussain |Human Resource Manager | |5 |Mr. Qayyum Khan |Monitoring and Controlling Manager | |6 |Mr. Adeel Ahmed |Finance Manager | |7 |Mr. Ilyas Bhatti |Quality Manager | |8 |Mr. Mustafa |Procurement Team | |9 |Mr. Mateen |Procurement Team | |10 |Mr. Faisal |Medicine Disbursements Team | |11 |Mr. Sohail |Medicine Disbursement Team | |12 |Mr. Mansoor |Survey Team | |13 |Mr. Ameen |Survey Team | |14 |Mr. Sarfaraz |Survey Team | |15 |Mr. Ismail |Survey Team | There is a complete reporting pattern of these members with one another as they will going to be involved in the project. The complete reporting relation is given below: Project Acceptance Criteria There are certain teams made for the acceptance of certain activities that are occurring across the project. The activities for which the Acceptance criteria are defined are as follows: 1. Project Budget: Project Budget will be accepted by the higher authorities of the company and will be finalized after the mutual collaboration with the Project Manager Mr. Ahsan Javed. The budget will be accepted only if it is under the profit of the company. 2. Human Resource: The people that will going to be hired as Distribution team will be selected and finalized by the mutual collaboration of Project Manager and Human Resource Manager. The finalized team will be reported to the project manager for the final approval in written. As the Project Manager will sign, the team will then be ready for their work in the field. 3. Procurement Acceptance: All the things related to procurement will be accepted only by the committee that will be created by the Project Manager and headed by him also. The committee will check procurement by themselves. In case of Drugs/Non-Drugs item the sample will be tested through the laboratories to check whether the Drugs are as per the quality. The acceptance will be finalized only when the medicines will be as per the standard quality. After that the documents will be signed by the Project Manager as being approved. 4. Deliverable Acceptance: The deliverable will be accepted only when they are properly distributed to the flood effected people in the city of Noshera and Mardan. Work Packages Project Deliverables There are not many deliverables of our Project. The only deliverable that we have to give to our customers that are the flood victims are the proper disbursement of the medicines. Work Products 1. First and Foremost important work product of our project is the survey report generated by the Survey Team that will visit the effected areas at the start of the project. This work product is like the backbone of the project as all the future actions will be dependent upon the report. 2. All the bidding documents that will be created for the process of procurement (Medicines and other items). 3. The stakeholder register will also be an important part of the project that will help us to know that what are the expectation of each stakeholder, how much is their power and level of interest in the project. 4. All the Project related plans like Human Resource Plan, Quality Plan, Risk Management Plan, Communication Plan, and Procurement plans are important work products as it helps Project Manager to understand that which technique will be used to handle which type of situation. Project Exclusions We know that around 20% of the area of Pakistan is effected by the Flood. We are not that big company so we are not able to provide the medicines to all the effected areas. Therefore we are only targeting the areas of Noshera and Mardan (Cities of Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa Province). All the Other effected area is not the part of our project. Project Constraints The main constraint of our project is the allotted budget. The allotted budget is the main constraint against which the project must be completed because the organization is giving the aid to the flood victims only through its profit. Project Assumptions W assume in our project that the budget will going to be approve on time by the higher authority of the organization. These will ultimately going to boast the morale of the project team. Furthermore we as a team are hoping that the required Medicines will be easily available in the market, which will help us to complete our project according to the goal we had set before. buy custom Efficiency Enhancement essay Todays society is what it is, because of technology. Technology in todays society touches on every aspect of life. Every sector of the economy is dependent on technology. Technology affects international relations among nations. Every day the level of technology keeps on advancing and more new knowledge is brought to the eyes of mankind. Technology has both good and bad effects of which can be long term and/or short term. This research aims at briefly highlighting the effects and causes of technology. The paper will achieve this by giving real life illustrations which are well known and some of which are quite amazing. The paper takes no stand but draws the general picture of the effect and causes of technology on mankind. The paper will explore both the good and bad side of technology. This research exclusively uses literature review as the only way of data collection. To cover for inadequacy and bias which may result from this kind of data collection, the literature sources used are purely from credible sources consisting of peer reviewed journals. Literature review This section will review causes and effects of technology with illustrations from real life examples. The section will at times base its arguments on reasonableness of a situation and make intuitive conclusions. The section is divided into three sub-sections which talks about efficiency, knowledge and security. In reviewing the sub-sections, both the advantages and the disadvantages will be brought to light. Efficiency Enhancement Technology can be said to have advanced as a result of the need for efficiency. The need for efficiency pushes people to develop ways in wich processes can be done in better ways. The inefficiency associated with processing large data manually brought about the development of computers. The need to process the same data faster and accurately has led to development of supercomputers (Zelkowitz, p. 162). The need to work efficiently in dangerous areas for long time brought about the development of robots. Robots controlled by human beings are more efficient, faster and can work for more hours than human beings (Burgard 192). Generally speaking, the need for efficiency is everywhere; the medical field, the military, space science, education, business etcetera. In a summative way, efficiency brought about by technology makes it easier to carry out various processes making it easier for mankind to have a better lifestyle. For instance, advanced communication through the use of computers and internet has made it possible for outsourcing of jobs to be possible. This has meant millions of saving for the American corporations as outsourcing has been shown to be cheaper than internally hiring employees. Globalization, a talk of the day anywhere, has been catapulted by technology. Without technology, globalization will be far from a dream. Thus, it is reasonable to argue that all the benefits accrued from globalization are due to advances in technology. Globalization has opened up opportunities for various countries to trade more openly and create numerous job opportunities (Narual 103). Technology in the medically has greatly increased efficiency. Advanced and complicated surgical operations can be carried out in pursuant of saving lives. Use of laser equipments in the medical field makes it possible for surgical wounds to heal faster and is less painful. Advancing technology in the medical field has made doctors to be eefficient and save lives of millions of people (Geisler and Heller 32). Enhancing Knowledge Technology has made it possible for mankind to have an advanced knowledge of how the universe functions. It is possible to make whether prediction to reliable levels. Technology has made it possible for earthquakes to be detected well before they mount momentum to destructive level. It is possible to see the development of hurricanes, typhoons and tornados. This significant whether you are in a ship or on the land as it help you to prepare enough or even be evacuated (Ravi, Aditya and Gupta 41). Technology has made it possible for cloning to be done on sheep. There are various experiments which have been carried out on mice. All this has been made possible through technology. These experiments reveal a lot knowledge which makes it possible for mankind to find better ways of treatment. By gaining knowledge on how the human body functions, it is possible develop drugs and counter malfunctions of the body in a better way without compromising the chances of peoples lives (Geisler and Heller 35). Technology is also used to study and gain knowledge on the ecosystem around us. How will one know that the blue whales are endangered without engaging divers and sophisticated machines to find out? What about the python reserves in the world? They will swallow you up if you counting them manually, technology has to be engaged; may some flying cameras or something close to that. Having the knowledge of the ecosystem makes it possible for proper preservation measures to be undertaken. Technology makes it possible to understand to what level the ozone layer has been depleted so that corrective measures can be taken (Narual 103). Buy custom Efficiency Enhancement essay

M4 U2 Notes Essay

M4 U2 Notes Essay M4 U2 Notes Essay Advantages of budgeting and budgetary control Budgeting is obviously a sensible thing for a business to do because it controls how much money a business should be spending on rent, wages etc. If departments keep to the budget or spend less than they actually can then the company in this case Legend T-shirts should have a favourable variance depending on how many sales they make. Legend T-shirts had anticipated to spend  £80,000 on fixed costs and  £72,000 on variable costs which has a total of  £152,000. They actually spent  £79,000 on fixed costs and  £54,000 on variable costs with a total of  £133,000. This means they organised the budget control correctly as only heating and lighting spent over their budget but misc spent less so it all worked out. The problem was they didn’t sell enough so this isn’t the fault of budgeting the blame will fall on sales & marketing. The whole point of budgeting is to compel the management to think about the future they need to make sure they are achieving targets and this is for every department they should aim to keep their expenditure the lowest they possibly can. The one expense in Legend T-shirts that didn’t achieve its target was heating and lighting the one expense that overachieved was misc as they lowered their total costs by a  £1000. This whole thing enables them to see what they’re doing wrong and how they can improve their budgeting for the future. Coordination & Communication Budgeting promotes coordination & communication because the senior management will have to coordinate & communicate with departments about their future plans, and how they intend to manage the budget, and how much each department should get to spend. This also lets them know how much they should be spending on all the resources. Coordination is essential in every business as poor coordination can lead to errors which affect the business. Communication is essential so everyone in their respective departments knows how things are going to be structured. The business needs to communicate correctly and effectively to make sure everyone knows how they should use their budget in this case. Miscommunication however can lead to errors and can affect the business; an example of a miscommunication is for example in the budgeting department they could miscommunicate the budget for the marketing department and this could cause them to over spend. This will have a bad impact on the business because they have miscommunicated information which could affect the businesses revenue/profits causing the business to make a loss. An example of effective communication is where budgeting effectively tell the departments how much they should spend on each expense. This is great for the business especially if everyone keeps to the budget. This is because the aim of budgeting is to keep the costs low to keep the breakeven point as low as possi ble. Coordination is essential in most businesses it is the senior management’s role to coordinate the budgets and make sure everything is done appropriately and in the correct way. The senior management of Legend t-shirts coordinated wrongly with the department or function which was in charge of the heating and lighting expense this caused the business to make a loss. Responsibility Budgeting clearly defines the areas of responsibility tells everyone how much they need to spend and on what and they are required to stick to the budget and try to get costs lower. They will require managers for the budget that are responsible for the achievement of budget targets and for the operations under their personal control. Legend T-shirts need to make sure they are responsible with their money by this I mean sticking to their budgets. For example finance should only spend a certain amount of money on the T-shirts/resources/rent etc. This is to

Foreign Direct Investment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Foreign Direct Investment - Essay Example Foreign Direct Investment refers to the investments that a multinational firm makes when it is initially located in one country but decides to locate to or acquire substantial production facilities in another country. FDI is a significant factor in operation of MNCs. As Bernard, Jensen and Schott [2] point out, its importance to the U.S. economy is demonstrated by the fact that about 90% of all exports from and imports into the U.S. flow through a U.S. MNC while roughly 50% of the trade flows in fact occur between subsidiaries or affiliates of the same MNCs.[2]. Foreign Direct Investment in another country could take place through the financing of new investments within the target country or even through mergers and acquisitions of local firms and production facilities, etc by a multinational entity, with the value of mergers increasing from 52% of the FDI in 1987 to 83% in 1999, as per UNCTAD [13].1.2:  Ã‚  Ã‚   Benefits of Foreign Direct Investment:  Foreign Direct Investment c an be beneficial to a multinational firm in several ways and Isobe et al [8] have examined the multinational firm in the context of technology transfer. They have examined the impact of early movers in technology within emerging economic regions as far as performance is concerned by studying 220 Japanese multinational companies that have set up their business in China. The findings in this study suggested that a multinational firm gains from technology transfer especially when the degree of commitment of the firm is high.
