buy custom Efficiency Enhancement essay Todays society is what it is, because of technology. Technology in todays society touches on every aspect of life. Every sector of the economy is dependent on technology. Technology affects international relations among nations. Every day the level of technology keeps on advancing and more new knowledge is brought to the eyes of mankind. Technology has both good and bad effects of which can be long term and/or short term. This research aims at briefly highlighting the effects and causes of technology. The paper will achieve this by giving real life illustrations which are well known and some of which are quite amazing. The paper takes no stand but draws the general picture of the effect and causes of technology on mankind. The paper will explore both the good and bad side of technology. This research exclusively uses literature review as the only way of data collection. To cover for inadequacy and bias which may result from this kind of data collection, the literature sources used are purely from credible sources consisting of peer reviewed journals. Literature review This section will review causes and effects of technology with illustrations from real life examples. The section will at times base its arguments on reasonableness of a situation and make intuitive conclusions. The section is divided into three sub-sections which talks about efficiency, knowledge and security. In reviewing the sub-sections, both the advantages and the disadvantages will be brought to light. Efficiency Enhancement Technology can be said to have advanced as a result of the need for efficiency. The need for efficiency pushes people to develop ways in wich processes can be done in better ways. The inefficiency associated with processing large data manually brought about the development of computers. The need to process the same data faster and accurately has led to development of supercomputers (Zelkowitz, p. 162). The need to work efficiently in dangerous areas for long time brought about the development of robots. Robots controlled by human beings are more efficient, faster and can work for more hours than human beings (Burgard 192). Generally speaking, the need for efficiency is everywhere; the medical field, the military, space science, education, business etcetera. In a summative way, efficiency brought about by technology makes it easier to carry out various processes making it easier for mankind to have a better lifestyle. For instance, advanced communication through the use of computers and internet has made it possible for outsourcing of jobs to be possible. This has meant millions of saving for the American corporations as outsourcing has been shown to be cheaper than internally hiring employees. Globalization, a talk of the day anywhere, has been catapulted by technology. Without technology, globalization will be far from a dream. Thus, it is reasonable to argue that all the benefits accrued from globalization are due to advances in technology. Globalization has opened up opportunities for various countries to trade more openly and create numerous job opportunities (Narual 103). Technology in the medically has greatly increased efficiency. Advanced and complicated surgical operations can be carried out in pursuant of saving lives. Use of laser equipments in the medical field makes it possible for surgical wounds to heal faster and is less painful. Advancing technology in the medical field has made doctors to be eefficient and save lives of millions of people (Geisler and Heller 32). Enhancing Knowledge Technology has made it possible for mankind to have an advanced knowledge of how the universe functions. It is possible to make whether prediction to reliable levels. Technology has made it possible for earthquakes to be detected well before they mount momentum to destructive level. It is possible to see the development of hurricanes, typhoons and tornados. This significant whether you are in a ship or on the land as it help you to prepare enough or even be evacuated (Ravi, Aditya and Gupta 41). Technology has made it possible for cloning to be done on sheep. There are various experiments which have been carried out on mice. All this has been made possible through technology. These experiments reveal a lot knowledge which makes it possible for mankind to find better ways of treatment. By gaining knowledge on how the human body functions, it is possible develop drugs and counter malfunctions of the body in a better way without compromising the chances of peoples lives (Geisler and Heller 35). Technology is also used to study and gain knowledge on the ecosystem around us. How will one know that the blue whales are endangered without engaging divers and sophisticated machines to find out? What about the python reserves in the world? They will swallow you up if you counting them manually, technology has to be engaged; may some flying cameras or something close to that. Having the knowledge of the ecosystem makes it possible for proper preservation measures to be undertaken. Technology makes it possible to understand to what level the ozone layer has been depleted so that corrective measures can be taken (Narual 103). Buy custom Efficiency Enhancement essay

M4 U2 Notes Essay

M4 U2 Notes Essay M4 U2 Notes Essay Advantages of budgeting and budgetary control Budgeting is obviously a sensible thing for a business to do because it controls how much money a business should be spending on rent, wages etc. If departments keep to the budget or spend less than they actually can then the company in this case Legend T-shirts should have a favourable variance depending on how many sales they make. Legend T-shirts had anticipated to spend  £80,000 on fixed costs and  £72,000 on variable costs which has a total of  £152,000. They actually spent  £79,000 on fixed costs and  £54,000 on variable costs with a total of  £133,000. This means they organised the budget control correctly as only heating and lighting spent over their budget but misc spent less so it all worked out. The problem was they didn’t sell enough so this isn’t the fault of budgeting the blame will fall on sales & marketing. The whole point of budgeting is to compel the management to think about the future they need to make sure they are achieving targets and this is for every department they should aim to keep their expenditure the lowest they possibly can. The one expense in Legend T-shirts that didn’t achieve its target was heating and lighting the one expense that overachieved was misc as they lowered their total costs by a  £1000. This whole thing enables them to see what they’re doing wrong and how they can improve their budgeting for the future. Coordination & Communication Budgeting promotes coordination & communication because the senior management will have to coordinate & communicate with departments about their future plans, and how they intend to manage the budget, and how much each department should get to spend. This also lets them know how much they should be spending on all the resources. Coordination is essential in every business as poor coordination can lead to errors which affect the business. Communication is essential so everyone in their respective departments knows how things are going to be structured. The business needs to communicate correctly and effectively to make sure everyone knows how they should use their budget in this case. Miscommunication however can lead to errors and can affect the business; an example of a miscommunication is for example in the budgeting department they could miscommunicate the budget for the marketing department and this could cause them to over spend. This will have a bad impact on the business because they have miscommunicated information which could affect the businesses revenue/profits causing the business to make a loss. An example of effective communication is where budgeting effectively tell the departments how much they should spend on each expense. This is great for the business especially if everyone keeps to the budget. This is because the aim of budgeting is to keep the costs low to keep the breakeven point as low as possi ble. Coordination is essential in most businesses it is the senior management’s role to coordinate the budgets and make sure everything is done appropriately and in the correct way. The senior management of Legend t-shirts coordinated wrongly with the department or function which was in charge of the heating and lighting expense this caused the business to make a loss. Responsibility Budgeting clearly defines the areas of responsibility tells everyone how much they need to spend and on what and they are required to stick to the budget and try to get costs lower. They will require managers for the budget that are responsible for the achievement of budget targets and for the operations under their personal control. Legend T-shirts need to make sure they are responsible with their money by this I mean sticking to their budgets. For example finance should only spend a certain amount of money on the T-shirts/resources/rent etc. This is to

Foreign Direct Investment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Foreign Direct Investment - Essay Example Foreign Direct Investment refers to the investments that a multinational firm makes when it is initially located in one country but decides to locate to or acquire substantial production facilities in another country. FDI is a significant factor in operation of MNCs. As Bernard, Jensen and Schott [2] point out, its importance to the U.S. economy is demonstrated by the fact that about 90% of all exports from and imports into the U.S. flow through a U.S. MNC while roughly 50% of the trade flows in fact occur between subsidiaries or affiliates of the same MNCs.[2]. Foreign Direct Investment in another country could take place through the financing of new investments within the target country or even through mergers and acquisitions of local firms and production facilities, etc by a multinational entity, with the value of mergers increasing from 52% of the FDI in 1987 to 83% in 1999, as per UNCTAD [13].1.2:  Ã‚  Ã‚   Benefits of Foreign Direct Investment:  Foreign Direct Investment c an be beneficial to a multinational firm in several ways and Isobe et al [8] have examined the multinational firm in the context of technology transfer. They have examined the impact of early movers in technology within emerging economic regions as far as performance is concerned by studying 220 Japanese multinational companies that have set up their business in China. The findings in this study suggested that a multinational firm gains from technology transfer especially when the degree of commitment of the firm is high.
